Environmental Policy

ecomaine recognizes and accepts its responsibility for the environment as an integral part of its services and operations as articulated in its Mission Statement:

“ecomaine provides comprehensive long-term solid waste solutions in a safe, environmentally responsible, economically sound manner, and is a leader in raising public awareness of sustainable waste management strategies.”

ecomaine is committed to excellence and leadership in protecting the environment and will strive to achieve this objective through an effective Environmental Management System which adheres to the following principles:

Communication
ecomaine will provide training and education to our employees to ensure that we can work safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally sound manner. ecomaine will communicate Maine’s Waste Management Hierarchy (reduce, reuse, recycle, compost/anaerobic digestion, waste-to-energy, landfill) openly with employees, customers, and the public and will work openly with government, and regulatory agencies governing the company’s environmental performance and improvement plans.

Compliance
It is ecomaine’s policy to fulfill its compliance obligations and manage all of its activities to meet or surpass the standards of all relevant environmental laws and regulations and other requirements to which ecomaine subscribes.

Continuous Improvement
ecomaine is committed to continual improvement to enhance environmental performance, establish measurable environmental improvement goals and targets and regularly audit environmental performance to ensure member communities that ecomaine is operating at the highest environmental standard.

Protection of the Environment
ecomaine will protect the environment by taking into account the impact of its environmental aspects when making decisions and implement pollution prevention throughout the organization.
