Important! Know Before You Go:
ACCESS:
Not all facilities are open to everyone. Many municipal facilities, including recycling drop-offs, are restricted to residents of the specific communities they serve. You may be asked to show proof of residency or display a permit sticker. If you’re unsure whether a facility is available to you, contact them directly before making the trip.
HOURS:
Hours for these facilities vary. Most transfer stations operate on limited schedules that shift seasonally, and many are closed on Sundays and holidays. Special waste and household hazardous waste (HHW) events are often held only on specific dates, typically a handful of Saturdays per year. Always call ahead or check the facility’s website to confirm current hours before visiting.
ACCEPTED MATERIALS:
Not every facility accepts every material. Transfer stations generally handle household trash, recyclables, and bulky items, but what’s accepted at each varies widely. Special waste facilities, including household hazardous waste depots, scrap metal recyclers, and e-waste drop-offs, have their own specific acceptance policies, and many do not accept commercial quantities or waste from businesses. When in doubt, call first.
