Looking to drop off trash or recycling? Your local transfer station may be the most convenient option.
ecomaine serves 70+ member communities for recycling and waste drop-off. Because our facilities are primarily designed for commercial and professional waste haulers, residential drop-off is limited to pickup trucks, larger vehicles, or vehicles towing a trailer.
If you’re visiting in an eligible vehicle, please review our Tipping Hall Safety Guidelines before you arrive. These rules are in place to protect you, our staff, and the broader community.
If your vehicle doesn’t meet the size requirement, we’ve gathered some alternative options below to help you find a convenient drop-off location nearby. Filter by facility type to narrow your search, and click any location for address, hours, and contact information.
The two nearest options to ecomaine are Troiano Transfer Station (10 Filmike Way, South Portland) for trash and Riverside Recycling Facility (910 Riverside St, Portland) for recycling.

Important! Know Before You Go:
ACCESS:
Not all facilities are open to everyone. Many municipal facilities, including recycling drop-offs, are restricted to residents of the specific communities they serve. You may be asked to show proof of residency or display a permit sticker. If you’re unsure whether a facility is available to you, contact them directly before making the trip.
HOURS:
Hours for these facilities vary. Most transfer stations operate on limited schedules that shift seasonally, and many are closed on Sundays and holidays. Special waste and household hazardous waste (HHW) events are often held only on specific dates, typically a handful of Saturdays per year. Always call ahead or check the facility’s website to confirm current hours before visiting.
ACCEPTED MATERIALS:
Not every facility accepts every material. Transfer stations generally handle household trash, recyclables, and bulky items, but what’s accepted at each varies widely. Special waste facilities, including household hazardous waste depots, scrap metal recyclers, and e-waste drop-offs, have their own specific acceptance policies, and many do not accept commercial quantities or waste from businesses. When in doubt, call first.
